Audition Notice: Solo Violinist

  • Score: J.S. Bach's complete Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004 (30 minutes)

Performance Context

  • The musician will perform live alongside dancers.

  • Maintenance of strict, steady tempos is a critical requirement for the choreography.

Commitment Timeline

  • Independent Practice: Learn and perfect the complete score independently prior to rehearsals.

  • Studio Rehearsals: 15 Hours total (Feb-April 2027, Schedule TBD).

  • Dress Rehearsals: 2 Dress Rehearsals total (1 prior to each performance weekend).

  • Performances: 4 Shows total across two consecutive weekends.

    • Weekend 1: 2 Shows in studio (Friday, April 16, 2027 – Sunday, April 18, 2027)

    • Weekend 2: 2 Shows (Friday, April 23, 2027 – Saturday, April 24, 2027) at the Behnke Center for Contemporary Performance.

Audition Requirements

  • Digital Submission: CV, video link of a solo classical performance, and a recording excerpt of any solo Bach work.

  • Live Audition Excerpts: Finalists must play these specific excerpts from Partita No. 2 while in a live rehearsal with the dancers and choreographer:

    • Movement IV: Gigue – Complete movement.

    • Movement V: Chaconne – Measures 1–48 and Measures 89–132.

Compensation Breakdown ($2,800 Flat Fee)

  • Independent Practice Stipend: $1,330

  • Studio Rehearsals: $750 (15 hours @ $50/hr)

  • Tech/Dress Rehearsals: $120 (2 dress rehearsals @ $60/ea)

  • Live Performances: $600 (4 shows @ $150/ea)
